SGI-New Zealand members commemorate first Soka Gakkai President's birthday

On June 1, some 250 SGI-New Zealand members gathered for a prayer meeting to commemorate June 6, first Soka Gakkai President Tsunesaburo Makiguchi's 132nd birth anniversary, at the SGI-New Zealand Culture Center in Auckland, New Zealand. Representatives introduced Mr. Makiguchi's life and works and participants studied portions of "The World of Nichiren Daishonin's Writings," a dialogue on Nichiren Buddhism among SGI President Daisaku Ikeda and Soka Gakkai Study Department leaders. Representative members shared personal experiences about practicing and applying Nichiren Buddhism in their lives.

SGI-New Zealand Women Host Earth Charter Seminar on Problems Facing Contemporary Youth - Jun 21

On June 21, SGI-New Zealand women conducted their fourth Earth Charter Seminar at the SGI-New Zealand South Island Activity Center in Christchurch. The SGI-New Zealand young women's and women's divisions are sponsoring the seminars to promote the Earth Charter and instill awareness of social issues among members and friends. At the interactive seminar led by physician Sue Buckshaw (tentative spelling) and SGI-New Zealand Women's Division Chief Jessica Phuang, participants discussed problems facing youth in contemporary society. Dr. Buckshaw talked about drug abuse and child abuse, and stressed the need for understanding and cooperation among family members and the community for developing educational programs for young people.
