SGI-New Zealand Women Leaders Meet in Auckland - May 18
On May 18, SGI-New Zealand (SGI-NZ) Pacific General Chapter women gathered for leadership training at the SGI-NZ Culture Center in Auckland, New Zealand. In a message, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda quoted from Nichiren's writings "Where there is unseen virtue, there will be visible reward," and told the participants that those who work for the sake of others, based on their practice of Nichiren Buddhism will lead lives of perpetual good fortune and prosperity. The women discussed six criteria for leaders in the 21st century, based on Mr. Ikeda's writings. Discussion topics included: having the ability to face and challenge difficulties; becoming leaders well-versed in all matters of society; and developing a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to draw up a plan of action. Each participant resolved to develop her capabilities, while uniting in solidarity for the sake of lasting peace.

On the previous day, the SGI-NZ Japanese language group met at the same venue. Participants, including many friends, studied "The World of Nichiren Daishonin's Writings," a dialogue on Nichiren Buddhism between Mr. Ikeda and Soka Gakkai Study Department leaders.
SGI-New Zealand Opens Dunedin Activity Center - May 24

The SGI-New Zealand (SGI-NZ) Dunedin Activity Center, which is the southern-most SGI center in the world, opened in the city of Dunedin, New Zealand. Local SGI-NZ members attended the May 24 opening. In a message for the opening, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda expressed hopes for everyone to advance cheerfully in beautiful harmony and to lead the most triumphant lives. He also encouraged everyone to seek out and raise capable individuals, while expanding waves of happiness, peace and culture in their respective communities and society at large. SGI-NZ General Director James Wallace spoke.

SGI-New Zealand Hosts Peace Seminar in Auckland - May 25
On May 25, SGI-NZ hosted a peace seminar at the SGI-NZ Culture Center in Auckland. Margaret Stanners, representing the Auckland office of the Peace Foundation, a non-profit peace organization in New Zealand, was the guest lecturer. Speaking on passive violence and dehumanization, Ms. Stanners referred to the importance of dialogue for overcoming verbal violence.
