SGI-New Zealand Holds Youth Summit - Jul 27-28

On July 27 and 28, SGI-New Zealand youth held a summit, titled "Breaking Through Personal Barriers Towards Unlimited Potential," at the Toi Whakaari New Zealand Drama School in Wellington, New Zealand. Around 160 young people from the northern and southern islands attended. In a message, SGI President Ikeda said the future lay in their hands, and that the youth's development and growth would determine the development of their country. The group studied Mr. Ikeda's 2002 Peace Proposal and discussed the meaning of true dialogue, great desire, overcoming difficulties, and the mentor-disciple relationship, sometimes breaking out into small discussions to share experiences and further strengthen bonds of friendship.

One participant said he learned that true dialogue begins with a heart to respect the other person. Dame Laurie Salas, vice president of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) New Zealand, commended the SGI-New Zealand youth for their contributions to peace through social activism. SGI-Oceania Chair Richard Sasaki encouraged the participants, saying, "Perseverance is the key to opening the future," and urged each one to take personal responsibility for creating peace in his or her respective arena.
